3 Days Mount Karisimbi Hiking safari tour

A brief but highly interesting journey, the 3 Days Mount Karisimbi Hiking Safari Tour is mostly for individuals who want to take a trek to the summit of Mount Karisimbi and descend down. This three-day Mount Karisimbi hiking safari excursion is held in Rwanda, so that is where it begins and ends. Of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga range, including Mount Nyiragongo, the most active, Mount Gahinga, Mount Mikeno, Mount Muhavura, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Bisoke, and Mount Nyamulagira, Mount Karisimbi is one of the most climbed. Three nations share these volcanoes: Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Virunga National Park, and Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Due to its height, Mount Karisimbi is difficult to climb in a single day; thus, hikers must camp at a height of 3700 meters above sea level for the night, continue their journey the following day, and return the same day. The beginning and end of this 3-day Mount Karisimbi Hiking safari excursion are in Kigali, Rwanda.

Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to volcanoes national park

Transfer from Kigali to the Volcanoes National Park: On the first day of the three-day Mount Karisimbi Hiking Safari Tour, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, or from the airport when you arrive, and taken on a tour of the city that includes some of the most popular attractions, including the Kimironko Market and genocide memorial sites. Your lunch will be served after the city tour before you depart Kigali for the Volcanoes National Park. En route, you’ll stop at the park’s administrative building to pick up your Mount Karisimbi hiking permit before continuing to the park, where you’ll arrive in the evening for a lodge check-in, dinner, and overnight stay. If time permits, there are two options: visiting the Ibyiwacu cultural villa or taking a guided walk to the Burela and Ruhondo twin lakes.

Dinner and lunch are on the menu.

Day 2: Hike Mount Karisimbi (Ascend) up to 3700m

Hike Mount Karisimbi (Ascend) to 3700M: On the second day of the three-day Mount Karisimbi Hiking Safari Tour, after a leisurely breakfast, leave the lodge armed with everything you’ll need for the hike, including a sleeping bag, gardening gloves, warm clothing, a rain jacket, a cap, insect repellent, hiking boats, sunglasses, and any other gear you think you’ll need. Following that, meet your Rwanda safari driver and travel to the park’s administrative center for a briefing on the Karisimbi walk. You can learn everything about Mount Karisimbi during the briefing, including the potential wildlife to encounter, the dos and don’ts, and much more. Then, hire a porter and set out on the walk to begin the actual hike as you stroll through the forests and plantations at the mountain’s base, with a chance to spot various wildlife species like primates, mammals, birds, and many others that thrill along the trail. You will also be rewarded with a glimpse of the Karisoke research center while on the climb. Dian Fossey, a primatologist who was tragically killed by poachers, built the center between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke. You will pause along the way to have your picnic lunch before continuing your ascent up to 3700M, where you will spend the night in preparation for the following morning’s summit attempt of Karisimbi.

Day 3: Ascend from 3700M to the summit and descend back for departures

ascend to the top from 3700 meters, then return to the base for departures: In order to avoid the scorching heat on three of the three days of your Mount Karisimbi Hiking Safari Tour, get up at a height of 3700 meters above sea level, have breakfast provided, and then start hiking. As you reach the peak, you will be greeted with a Caldera, which is the main feature that is located at the top of this volcano. Spend some time taking in the Caldera and the other sights, such as Bisoke and other nearby volcanoes, as well as a quick check at the Volcanoes National Park. Be prepared to begin your descent down to meet your Rwanda safari driver for a trip back to Kigali with a lunch stop on route once you have thoroughly explored Mount Karisimbi’s summit. When you finish your three-day trip in Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills, you can opt to be dropped off at an early-arranged hotel of your choice or to be taken to Kigali international airport for an evening or night flight to your next location or back home.

Note: If you didn’t get to do the Kigali city tour on day 1 of your vacation, make sure to schedule some time for it on day three because it goes well with the Karisimbi Trek.
