Game Drive Safari In Uganda : Game drive is one of the major safari activities in Uganda where tourists get an opportunity to explore the savannah national parks in the comfort of a 4WD Uganda safari vehicle with a professional driver who is well conversant with the different game tracks. Uganda is a home to 10 national parks which is a home to different wildlife species ranging from mammals, primates, birds among others. Among the 10 national parks game drives are done in 4 savannah national parks namely Murchison falls national park, Lake Mburo national park, Queen Elizabeth national park and Kidepo valley national park.

Game drives are either done early in the morning at around 6:30am when the animals are most active and in the evening when they are going back to their resting areas or at night where you can spot nocturnal animals which become active at night.

GAME DRIVE IN MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Murchison falls national park is the largest and most visited game drive destination in Uganda. The park was gazette in 1952 which makes it the oldest national park in Uganda and it’s a home to 76 mammal species and 450 bird species. Game drives in Murchison falls are either done in very early in the morning or in the afternoon with a professional guide following different game tracks such as Buligi game track, queens track, Pakuba, Victoria track, tebito track, albert track, chobe track, among others where you will be able to view animals like buffaloes, Uganda kob, giraffes, hippos, elephants, waterbucks, oribi and Jackson’s hartebeest among others as their feeding in the open savannah plains, view predators such as lions, hyenas and leopards as they are looking for a morning hunt as well as a variety of bird species.

Murchison falls national park offers night game drives where tourists are able to explore the park at night with an experienced park ranger and spotlight torches for clear viewing of nocturnal animals such as leopards, lions, genet, civet, hippos, nightjar, bush babies and porcupines among others.

GAME DRIVE IN LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

Lake Mburo national park is the smallest savannah national park that is found in the western part of Uganda in Kiruhura district. Game drives in lake mburo national park can either be done early in the morning or in the afternoon as you follow the game tracks such as zebra track, kazuma track, lake side track, kigambira loop trail track among others where you will be able to view animals such as zebras, buffalos, elands, bushbucks, waterbucks, giraffes, topi, leopards, bush pigs, duikers and hippos among others.

Lake Mburo national park is among the safari destinations that offer night game drives where visitors explore the park at night with spotlight torches. During the game drive, you will be able to spot nocturnal animals such as spotted hyenas, genet, white tailed mongoose, honey badger, black galago, porcupines, side-stripped jackal and leopards among others.

GAME DRIVE IN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Queen Elizabeth national park is the second largest national park in Uganda and is located in the western part of Uganda in districts of Kasese, Rukungiri, Kamwenge and Rubirizi. Queen Elizabeth national park is a home to 95 mammal species and over 600 bird species making it one of the best wildlife viewing safari destinations. Game drives within the park are done in the early morning at 6:30am or in the evening within a comfortable Uganda safari vehicle with a professional safari guide. While on the game drives, you will follow different game tracks in kasenyi plains, ishasha sector, mweya peninsular, kazinga channel drive circuit, crater drive circuit among others where you will spot animals such as buffaloes, leopards, famous tree climbing lions in the ishasha sector, giant forest hogs, spotted hyenas, bushbucks, warthogs and hippos among others.

Queen Elizabeth national park as well offers night game drives which is done only in the Mweya peninsula with spot light torches for clear viewing of nocturnal animals such as serval cats, lions, civet, hippos, bush babies, spotted hyenas and leopards among others.

GAME DRIVE IN KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Kidepo valley national park is the most amazing protected area that is located in the north eastern part of Uganda in karamoja region bordering with south Sudan and Kenya. Kidepo valley national park is the best wildlife viewing destinations because of being a home to abundant wildlife species. Game drives within the kidepo valley national park are done in two areas that is Narus valley area and the kidepo valley area and it’s either in the early morning, afternoon and evening. While on the game drive you will spot animals such as waterbucks, zebras, giraffes, elands, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetahs, kudus, lions, elephants, bushbucks, hyenas and oribi among others.

Therefore game drives in Uganda is an exciting and amazing activity that can be combined with other activities such as boat cruise, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale national park, gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park, sport fishing, bird watching and horse riding among others.
