What To Pack On A Gorilla Trekking Safari

What To Pack On A Gorilla Trekking Safari : Gorilla trekking is an amazing and adventurous activity that one needs to take part. The trekking of the endangered gorillas takes place in Uganda in Mgahinga national park and Bwindi impenetrable national park, Rwanda in the volcanoes national park and virunga in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While preparing for the trekking, travelers need to know what to carry before coming and these include;

GORILLA PERMITS AND PASSPORT

While heading for a gorilla trekking in the national park, you are required to present your trekking permit and passport at the park offices. Valid travel documents and a visa are very important while on a Uganda Gorilla safari. Without the required documents you will not be allowed to enter the country and track the gorillas. Besides other documents, ensure to take the yellow fever shots and get the certificate.

HIKING SHOES

High quality hiking boots are a must to ensure a better grip of the hilly and muddy terrain. Poor quality boots or plain sneakers could hurt the ankles or feet. Therefore always remember that gorilla trekking involves climbing steep hills in areas with high altitude. The trails can get muddy or slippery during the rainy season.

CLOTHING

When one is making a decision on the clothing for gorilla trekking, you must ensure that you include water proof trousers, jackets, long sleeved shirts, sweaters, long socks and long trousers. The right clothing helps in protecting you from getting wet, sharp tree branches, sun and insects. You will always tack in the trousers to your boots to avoid safari ants and other insects from entering the body. Shorts are best for relaxation after the trekking and pajamas for cold nights.

A RAIN JACKET AND SWEATER

The jacket or sweater is an essential item not to miss especially during the wet season. The gorillas live in the tropical rain forest and rain is expected any time of the day regardless of the period within the year. A rain jacket therefore should be on top of the packing list even when you are to come in the dry season. The sweater will keep you warm when it comes to evenings and mornings. The volcanoes national park and mgahinga are found in the high altitudes with several volcanoes which release cold winds and mist.
